Since starting this page in January of 2007, I have begun working with the First Aid Team to build the official www.firstaidteam.com site with an up to date list of all Errata for every new edition. The official 2007 errata can be found there as well as new errata for 2008. I have worked very hard with the FA team to get this up and running and we hope it answers all of your questions.
I like this book. I use this book. This book has a number of errors, both small and large. With every edition, students complain about this and are shocked SHOCKED that the same errors persist from edition to edition. “Isn’t anyone telling them?” you might wonder.
Here’s what probably happens: students find the errors, complain about the errors, and then swear that they’re going to write them up and send them to Vikas Bushan and the rest of the First Aid team. They finish the test, look at the list of errors and say, “screw it”. As a result, the FA team probably doesn’t hear about it, thinks everything is fine because, “Someone would have said something, what with all the anal-retentive gunners our there” and the rest is history repeating.
In the meantime, Googling “errors in First Aid for USMLE” takes you to this page.
So with that responsibility, I’m going to email the First Aid Team with every error that I find or suggestion for the text and I am going to post those here for you to read and agree/disagree with. I am also going to include diagrams/mnemonics that I have made to help clarify some of the trickier areas.

pg. 158 in the virology section
MMR, with the R [Reubella] being bolded, is indicated as being an egg based vaccine.
However, measles and mumps are the egg based vaccines, while Reubella is from lung fibroblasts.

There is not a section provided for comments on the “high yield color images,” so I figured I would put this on the main page. On “color image 29: Cirrhosis” The description for (d) reads “chronic passive biliary congestion gives the liver a “nutmeg” appearance.” This is incorrect. The “nutmeg liver” is classically associated with chronic right-sided heart failure and centrilobular conjestion. -Robbin’s Atlas of Pathology (Klatt), pg. 211
Chronic biliary congestion would produce “bile lakes” and can induce bile duct proliferation, biliary cirrhosis, and fat malabsorption if severe enough. Same source, pg. 199.

Dude, you’re awesome to have a comprehensive list like this. I have been trying to find such a list for months now. Just a quick question, have all the errors and their correct answers you list been verified? I am just going to print and fix the book if so.

Hey I found your website trying to figure out why they put Crohn’s disease as Post infectious and Ulcerative Colitis as Autoimmune on p. 291. Crohn’s is autoimmune, ulcerative colitis is unknown/possibly post-infectious. Thanks for the useful tool.

This is a very nice resource to anyone preparing for the boards. I have posted a link to this in the link section of my blog. Getting involved with the material to the point where you’re finding mistakes and ways to improve upon it is a great way to master this stuff and to build self-confidence for the exam. Great job here Topher!

Hey Topher, thank you sooo much for sharing all these treasures with us! I think I might have found a mistake in the FA 2007 on page 188 ‘Antibody structure and function’. As far as I know, the Light Chains of the Fab are supposed to be on the outside of the Y, right?

Part of the problem, I think, is the errors have to be submitted by June, and not everyone is organized to do it then, nor have they taken the test. The deadline is early so they can be reviewed and included in the next edition that comes out 6 months later… By the way, you’ll note that there were at least 2 “corrections” in the official FA list that were making something that had been correct incorrect…
